didn’t plan on being an entrepreneur. There was no career counseling, no middle of the night revelation, no burning desire that finally became reality.
Nope, that wasn’t me or my path. I was happily employed in a corporate job then, you know the expression, “stuff” happened.
Most entrepreneurs who, like me, didn’t have strong entrepreneurial yearnings probably experienced something similar: for whatever reason, their corporate gig became untenable. The circumstances may be different, but the end result the same.
It’s been a long time (30+ years) since walking away from that desk to start my own business. Over the years some of my consulting and training clients have offered me full-time work. At other times headhunters contacted me with opportunities that seemed almost too good to be true. I was intrigued for sure but never made the leap. I have stayed true to the entrepreneurial life.
Here’s a great understatement: the entrepreneurial life is gritty, can have disappointing results, and requires more than a little hard work. Another understatement: it is a thrilling, fantastic ride to be the driver of your own destiny, to create something that wasn’t there before, and to shape your own present and future.
There’s nothing like it.
